Shah Rukh Khan, the ‘Badshah of Bollywood,’ has infuriated Shiv Sena activists by stating that Pakistani cricketers should be permitted to play in the Indian Premiere League, IPL.
Reportedly, the Shiv Sena activists went berserk in Nagpur and vandalized posters of the King Khan’s upcoming Karan Johar film titled, ‘My Name is Khan’.
In Kolhapur, they festooned Shahrukh’s dummies with shoes and in Thane they made a poster size letter in which the actor was labeled as a traitor. They also warned theatres and multiplexes in Maharashtra against screening the movie set to release on Feb. 12.
Security tightened
A group of activists led by Anil Parab also staged a protest outside SRK’s residence in Bandra and had plans of handing a memorandum to Shahrukh.
But 20 of the protestors were arrested before they could reach the superstar’s house while the others managed to escape.
Anil Parab says, “As long as Pakistan continues to sponsor terrorism in India, they would not let any Pakistani play in India.”
Maharashtra government supports SRK
The Maharashtra Home Ministry has come to King Khan’s rescue this time and has warned the Shiv Sena activists against disrupting the screening of his upcoming release, ‘My Name is Khan’.
Maharashtra Home Minister, RR Patil says, “Shiv Sena will have to pay through its nose if it indulges in ransacking or disturbing theaters screening movies of actor Shah Rukh Khan.”
The issue takes a political turn
The buzz is that different political parties have stepped in and the issue that has been blown out of proportion by Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena group, has taken a political turn.
Mumbai’s home party NCP’s Nawab Malik condemns Shiv Sena and says, “Bal Thackeray must remember that he was the one who invited Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad, who is related to India's most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, at his residence. He should apologise to India.”
But leader of opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, Ekanath Khadse, supports Shiv Sena. “If you have to stay in this country, you have to respect and praise it,” he says.
